History Blog

This is my history blog for Mr. Boyle's G period class. There you have it. I have been keeping this blog since whenever school kinda started back up again. I don't really know when but it was after marching band started up again. Anyway, I looked back on all of the posts that I have been doing for about half a minute today and realized that all of these are terribly boring. So I think I'll add some fun stuff in.

Post About Classwork (Every Two Cycle Days)

December 19, 2012 and December 20, 2012:

On the 19th, we took a ton of notes and watched a short video at the end of class. The notes were on how each side thought that the war would only be a ninety-day war and how things actually ended up turning out.

On the 20th, we used devices to fill out a worksheet on either Gettysburg or Vicksburg. Because I didn't have a device I had to search through the textbook to find out about Gettysburg and got slightly different answers than anyone who did. Then we tried to make a big poster/brochure/billboard. We didn't really have a lot of time so people kind of just jotted some facts down in bullet formation.

Post About Classwork (Every Two Cycle Days)

December 17, 2012 and December 18, 2012

On the 17th, we did a QR code scavenger hunt. I was on Team Avatar and we did amazing... in the team spirit department at least. Actually, I think we did quite okay. We ran around and scanned the codes, then we wrote down the question they gave us, and then we searched madly for the answer with multiple different resources. All in all, it was a lot of fun and we learned about a bunch of battles in the civil war.

On the 18th, we read this worksheet called To Suspend or Not Suspend--That is the Question. It was about habeas corpus. We learned about it and then put our acting skills to the test. We pretended that we we a citizen in Maryland while the Civil War was going on and decided whether or not a bunch of different cases would be suspended or not. This also led to a discussion about whether we believed the draft was right or not but that ended with the lunch bell and Mr. Boyle saying that it didn't matter whether we personally thought it was right or not and that it only mattered what would actually happen in the case. After we came back form lunch, we read a sheet called Lincoln and the Writ of Liberty. It talked about how habeas corpus compared to the Bill of Rights and focused on the case of Clement L. Vallandigham in particular. This also brought up discussions about morals but we did eventually get down to actual history.

Post About Classwork (Every Two Cycle Days)

December 12, 2012 and December 13, 2012

On the 12th, we read Lincoln's first inaugural address. We also filled about a worksheet on it and took notes on a few events that happened while he was in office. We talked a lot about contracts and what happens if someone from a group of people decides to leave it. We came to the conclusion that the contract stays in place. We thought that just because someone basically changed their mind about doesn't mean everyone else did and the contract should only be disbanded when everyone decides to disagree with what it is saying. This whole discussion basically described what was happening in the United States at the time. I thought that it was a good discussion.

On the 13th we were in the computer lab (or the library as most people call it) where we all worked on a PowerPoint presentation over the computer. It was confusing and a few people kept fooling around and deleting everyone's slides but in the end, it was another interesting experience and a fun, different way to get work done.

Until next time!

Post About Classswork (Every Two Cycle Days)

December 10, 2012 and December 11, 2012

On the 10th, we we talked a lot about Abraham Lincoln and the Constitution and Union. We filled out worksheets and and discussed questions in detail. We talked about a lot of imagery used and how it related to these things. Most common uses of imagery were the "apple of gold" and the "picture of silver." We also looked a lot at unalienable rights and people's different takes on them. We also looked at how these "different takes on them" changed through history.

On the 11th, we talked a lot about South Carolina seceding from the Union. We talked about how it's Declaration was viewed by the people of South Carolina and the people of the United States. There was a lot of discussion about different laws and how they were violated. Then at the end of class, we talked about what the Constitution expected of the president and made a chart about the Constitution and the New Orleans Newspaper.

Post About Classwork (Every Two Cycle Days) and Stuff

December 3, 2012 and December 4, 2012:

On the 3rd, we looked a lovely political cartoon and tried to find everything that that it was conveying. After about a half an hour of us finding new things in the picture that displayed "character" we gave up because we had to move on. Then we took notes on South Carolina secceeding. After that, we went back to the political cartoon because we realized that we wouldn't give up that easy.

On the 4th, we did our edcafe. We would split and re-split into different groups to learn about how each person we had researched had affected the civil war era. The people I ended up learning about were David Clay, John Brown, Frederick Douglass, and Dred Scott. I also talked about my person, James K. Polk. In the end, we ended up taking a vote to see who was the most important. (I think that John Brown won.)

Thirty-Day Challenge
For days twenty-six through twenty-nine, I have worked a lot on tap charlstons, time steps, and the audition dance for anything goes. I hope I'm as prepared as I can be because my audition for anything goes is tomorrow. I won't be posting again about my thirty-day challenge because it will be complete tomorrow. For my final, thirtieth day of my challenge, all the tap I'll be doing will be rehearsing for my audition beforehand and performing at my audition. Thanks for following my progress. This is Maddie signing off of her thirty-day challenge for the last time.

Something to Think About:
We were talking about Texas in class these past few days so I thought I'd leave this link if anyone wanted to hear this story I heard on the radio the other. It's very interesting so here it is:

Post About Classwork (Every Two Cycle Days) and Stuff

November 29, 2012 and November 30, 2012:

On the 29th, we read about Harper's Ferry and John Brown. We also read a lot of testimonies on it and filled out a paper to try and find the truth though primary sources.

On the 30th, we had a substitute. We filled out a packet in groups. It was about different opions in teh south and the north. Through the packet, you could see that there weren't just two sides (pro and anti slavery) but there was a lot more ideas involved. It was kind of interesting to see all of the other arguments.

Thirty-Day Challenge
For days,  twenty-four and twenty-five, I worked on time steps and THE ANYTHING GOES AUDITION ROUTINE!!! That's right, Anything Goes auditions are next week--it's time to find out whether or not this month of tap dancing has done something or not. I'll keep you posted.

Until next time!

First Day of Awesome Christmas Music

I have decided to share one of the songs I listen to during the holiday season every day through Christmas Day. They will probably all be Christmas songs because that's what I celebrate. (Sorry if it's not what you celebrate. Deal.)

END OF SLAVERY!

Looking back at history (we do that in history class you know), other than a few radicals, I feel like the United States wanted slavery gone from the comfort of their couch so I think that this picture kind of explains that.

Right now I think we're coming up to that final push and falling off the bed (but at this point not caring) and actually doing something about the issue (in history, I mean).
So...
Sorry, that was to much of a stretch BUT HE'S SO CUTE!
Well this has nothing to do with anything so it makes up for this picture.
I guess.
Happy Thursday!

Life...

Most of the time, this is basically how I feel everything works.
Oh, U.S. Sigh...
Oh, over thinking. Sigh...
Oh, need I add anything? Sigh...
Oh, people. Sigh...
But then again, this is me:
Sigh...
Maybe someday when stuff stops deciding to take over my life, this will change.
I hope so but, until then, peace out!

Sorry, that didn't much relate except for the fact that Abe Lincoln was in one of the photos.

Post On The Last Four (Cycle) Days

November 20, 2012, November 21, 2012, November 27, 2012, and November 28, 2012

On the 20th, we learned about the Kansas Nebraska act by looking at political cartoons (good old political cartoons!), reading handouts, filling out worksheets, taking notes on our discussion.

On the 21st, it was the end of spirit week, so in homecoming tradition, we didn't have any classes but still counted it like we did.

On the 27th, we read about the Dred Scott case, answered a few questions, and talked about the case and it's "upcoming" effects on the world.

On the 28th, we looked a lot at Lincoln-Douglass debates. We watched a video, read some papers and filled out a worksheet. We also ended up having a fairly interesting discussion.

Thirty-Day Challenge
I don't remember exactly what I've done on days fifteen through twenty-three simply because there has been too much to remember specifics in the last week or so but I can say that have been working on a lot of time steps and I usually review a little every day.

Sorry, not a lot of detail because it's a lot to remember but
Until next time!

Tuesday, November 27, 2012

Nope!

I have decided to try and relate these random things that I find to history class. So, this will be a stretch but... I feel like this cat symbolizes the struggle for abolishing slavery. There you have it.

Post About Classwork (Every Two Cycle Days) and Stuff

November 16, 2012 and November 19, 2012

On the 16th, we basically read this handout about and escaped slaves the entire time. Then we left.

On the 19th, we talked about the packet we read and we also talked about the essay sources. Just a lot of doing the same stuff over the past two days.

Thirty-Day Challenge
Days eleven through fourteen were also awesome but a lot harder to find time to get an hour in. On day eleven, I reviewed a lot. Day twelve was the hardest. I didn't have an hour to spare at all because I was working my church fair and spaghetti supper the entire day. So I compromised and did steps down the hall whenever I had to get up. I probably got more of a tap dancing work out more than any of the other days because I had to get up a lot. Day thirteen was also a review day. On day fourteen, I did review and I also make up a few short combinations of my own to see if I could switch between steps I had been working on.

Post About Classwork (Every Two Cycle Days) and Other Stuff

November 14, 2012 and November 15, 2012

On the 14th, we went over the answers for the map questions that did the Friday before. It was interesting because most of us got a lot of the population questions wrong. We had forgotten how people were viewed back then and how slaves were only counted as three fifths of a person. Living in the present we had just counted them as actual people and gotten answers incorrect because of it. It was weird seeing how differently people viewed things. We also read different excerpts form different textbooks on the Mexican war and filled out a handout about them.

On the 15th, we watched a video on the Mexican war and took a short true/false quiz afterwards. (Apparently I managed to take notes on all of the things that we didn't need to know about the war. Sigh.) Then we looked at a bunch of different compromises that had to be made after the war. We took votes on what we would do and then looked at what really happened. It was interesting to see how the results differed.

Thirty-Day Challenge
Days five through ten were amazing. It was harder to find time each day to tap dance whilst trying to juggle other work, but when I got the time, it was a ton of fun. On day five, all I really did was review and work on "building them muscles!"Day six was also a review day but I also worked on hop shuffles a lot. Day seven was filled with more hop shuffling and some carrybacks. Day eight, I basically worked on broadways the whole time--I just did them over and over again. On day nine, I did the military step and a carryback review. And lastly, on day ten, I worked a lot on carrybacks and broadways. All in all, I think I've accomplished a lot in the past days.

Friday, November 9, 2012

BUT NOW GOD KNOWS, ANYTHING GOES!!!

This is what I'm trying to work up to in my tap dancing every day.

Post About Classwork (Every Two Cycle Days) And Other Stuff

November 8, 2012 and November 9, 2012

On the 8th, we took notes on the history of escaping slavery. We talked about the underground railroad a lot and read ten different textbooks summaries about it. Reading these helped us get an idea of how effective it was. We also learned a little about Harriet Tubman through this. It was interesting to see all of the different "tactics" used by slaves to obtain freedom or stop slaves from getting freedom (used by their masters and others).

On the 9th, we were in the lab in the library. We used an interactive map to learn about the Missouri Compromise and the Nullification Crisis. We filled out two worksheets and looked up a few of the questions on the internet to get a better description of what happened instead of just hypothesizing.

The Cause
The group a shall be working with for this project will be made of Anastasia Perreault, Jessica Macey, and I. Our cause will be making it a law that you know how to swim in order to graduate from high school.

Thirty-Day Challenge
Days three and four went by much quicker than days one and two because I'm quickly getting into it and looking forward to my hour of tap every day. (I think that I'm going to make this a regular thing.) On day three I really just worked on my hop shuffles. I got my right leg up to a good speed by my left leg is being a pain and can't go as fast a the right in the correct rhythm. On day four, I reviewed everything and tried to push the tempo a little faster (not as easy as it looks). I also worked a lot on step-shuffle-hop-ball changes and step-shuffle hops (military steps). Step-shuffle hops are actually the harder of the two because they require you to jump back and forth between both of you legs very quickly in order to keep on doing them. Military steps have been added to my "long term steps" and I'll try to work on them, and get a little faster with them each time I practice.

Post About Classwork (Every Two Cycle Days)

November 6, 2012 and November 7, 2012

On the 6th, we finished our Slavery's Opponents and Defenders worksheet. Then we filled out a worksheet about whether or not the constitution was a "Slave Document" or not. We did this to help with our upcoming essay on that topic.

On the 7th, we took notes on slavery and completed a paper. Then we shared papers with the people sitting next to us (for they had the opposing paper). We also talked a bit about our upcoming essay.

Thirty-Day Challenge

My first two days of tap dancing for an hour have gone fantastic. I already know a lot of tap so really what I'm working on just reviewing things and getting them to a faster tempo. On the first day, all I really did was work a few warm-ups to the fastest I could get them in one hour. I also started working on hop shuffles because I knew that the concept of them wasn't that hard but getting them at a fast tempo in the right tempo can be a nightmare if you don't do them often. I decided that this would probably take a few days of practicing to get them where I wanted. On the second day, I reviewed the warm-ups I did on the first day and tried to push them a little faster. I also made a lot of progress on getting my hop shuffles up to speed in the right rhythm.

The Thirty-Day Challenge

For the next thirty days, I'm going to challenge myself to tap dance for an hour or more every day. Starting November 6th, I'll do this. It will help me re-learn and get up to speed for the spring musical this year, Anything Goes. Also, I love tap dance and was very sad when I had to stop taking lessons. I'll post about what I'm learning and, in general, how I'm doing in my "Every Two Days" post starting the 7th.

Post About Classwork (Every Two Cycle Days)

(Haven't posted on classwork for while due to projects and whatnot.)

November 2, 2012 and November 5, 2012

On the 2nd, we split into groups and each read different parts of stories about slavery. The group I was in got the story about childhood. Each group made their own storyboard that included pictures, a brief summary, a question or two, and a few other things. Then we were handed papers about the upcoming quarter. This included new projects and review sheets. We were also told to think of something to give up or to do for a month.

On the 5th, we looked at eachother's storyboards (ours was the coolest because it was so avant garde) and filled out a Venn Diagram about them. Then we split into new groups after lunch and looked at a specific person from the time. Then we spread out and talked about each person with new groups. We didn't get to finish but learned about some new historical figures.

Julius Caesar Song

Music Written by Madeleine Schmuch
Lyrics Written by Anastasia Perreault
Vocals Sung by Madeleine Schmuch
Piano Played by Anastasia Perreault

Oh Beware the Ides of March
Oh beware the Ides of march
Oh beware the Ides of March
Oh be-ware

Julius Caesar kills Pompey and starts
To take power over Rome
Cassius goes and talks to Brutus and plants
Seeds of doubt about Caesar

That night there’s a terrible storm who ever
Knew the heavens to menace so-o
Heaven hath infused the spirits as omens
Of Ceasar's bad ru-u-ule

Brutus, Cassius, Casca, and
Decius, Metellus, Trebonius,
Cin-na and Lig-ar-i-ius
Form their plot

The conspirators form their plot to kill
Ceasar at the capitol
Brutus and Caesar ignore their wives which is
A really, really dumb move

Caesar’s wife dreamt of his death his body
Did run pure blood and the roman’s smiled
But Decius did say the dream meant nothing and
Caesar went off to the captiol

Friends, Romans and countrymen
Friends, Romans and countrymen
Friends, Romans, and countrymen
Lend me your ears

To the cap-tol they-a went and they
Did stab Cae-sar kill-ing him right there
So Bru-tus sent for Mark Ant-ton-y to try
To get him on their sigh-ide

Brutus lets them hold a fun-eral  and he
Con-vinced them of Cae-sar's guilt
But mark ant-ton-y then gets to speak and he
Sways the crowd to his own side

Evil spirit of Brutus
You’ll see me Phil-ip-i
Evil spirit of Brutus
At Phil-ip-i

An-ton-y  and Oc-tav-vius make a
Dea-e-eth list and cheat Cae-sar’s will
Brutus and Cassius begin to fight a-cuse
Each other of crimes and lies

But Bru-tus makes an ex-cuse for their
Fight-ing say-ing Por-tia is dea-ed
So they make their peace and go to sleep but Brutus
See’s Cae-sar's ghost be-fore him

O-oh poo-or Ca-a-sius
O-oh poor-or Bru-u-tus
O-oh poor-or Tit-an-ius
They all die

Ba-ttle starts in Phil-ip-i Oct-tavius
And Ant-ton-y ver-sus  the con-spiritors
Cas-sius sends Tit-an-i-us to check the camp
Pin-darus thinks Tit-anius is ca-ap-tured

Cas-sius asks Pindarius to kill him Cea-sar
Thou art re-venged but Tit-anius re-turns
Tit-nus kills him self ov-er dead Cassius and then
Bru-tus comes and kills him-self

So-o call the fields to rest
Lets a-way to part the glories
Uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-of this
Ha-ppy day

Timeline Updated and Re-posted

Post About Classwork (Every Two Cycle Days)

October 24, 2012 and October 25, 2012:

On the 24th, we watched something that was similar to, if not, a voice thread. It talked about art of the revolution. It talked about different styles of art and how well done the art was but also whether the art was accurate to the situation or just history in general. We could see that most art wasn't really historically correct but displayed emotions of the and created a scene that appeared "more" of whatever it was.

On the 25th, we took our memorization quiz for the first half of class. Then we reviewed went over the last few battles and studied for our test.

Post About Classwork (Every Two Cycle Days)

October 19, 2012 and October 22, 2012

On the 19th, we watched another cool battle map video thing and took notes on a few more battles during 1776. The strategies each side used were very clever for they used the weaknesses their opponent didn't even realize that they had.

On the 22nd, we talked about our assignments and did a QR code scavenger hunt around the history floor of the building. We had to scan the QR codes, write out the question, and put everything in chronological order. Everyone was fighting to the finish and enjoyed the race. That's about it.

Posty About Classwork (Every Two Cycle Days)

October 17, 2012 and October 18, 2012

On the 17th we divided the groups we made on the 16th and ended up making two big groups somehow. Then each of us shared what we had learned in out section and by the time the class was over, we had all learned a fair amount more about the Declaration than when we had started.

On the 18th, we had a substitute teacher. She basically talked about random things for half the class before giving handing out the assigned reading. It took us until almost the end of class to read the passage independently. After that we were supposed to work on an essay to do with the reading but she didn't explain it very well. Most of us ended up either not reading at all and winging the essay or reading for the rest of class like I did. Everyone else just gave up and talked. I definitely like our normal classes better.

Until next time!

Post About Classwork (Every Two Cycle Days)

October 15, 2012 and October 16, 2012

On the 15th, we presented out replica projects. This gave us a brief amount of information on a bunch of different important people we've studied or (hopefully) we'll be studying. That was about it.

On the 16th, we were supposed to get into groups based on either the vocabulary word or definition that we got, but we had to move around because not everyone had a device. After that, we each got a section of the declaration of independence and we took notes on that. Then we turned it into a bit.ly address. (My group's was http://bit.ly/PA8egc) We were quickly handed a key excerpts paper at the end of class and told to memorize it for Tuesday.

Post About Classwork (Every Two Cycle Days)

October, 10, 2012 and October 11, 2012

On the 10th, we talked a lot about our projects and we looked at the Battles on Bunker and Breed's hill. We saw this cool animation thing to see exactly how the rebels and the British moved. We took notes and had "LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION" drilled into our head.

On the 11th, we split into groups and read about a different document each--either the Olive Branch Petition, Common Sense, and the Plain Truth. Then we split into groups again and shared information again. We simplified everything down to this: the Olive Branch Petition--stick with England but make compromise, Common Sense--break away because they're violating colonial rights, and the Plain Truth--democracy=bad and England=good.

Until next time!

Post About Classwork (Every Two Cycle Days)

October 5, 2012 and October 9, 2012

On the 5th, we went over our Edcafe and simplified notes so that everyone got the main points and understood the order the events went in. Then, we go the poem Paul Revere's Ride by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and some actual facts about the ride. We tried to rewrite the poem as a sonnet but also report more accurately than Longfellow. At the end of the period, we were swiftly handed a bunch of papers, including one that was six feet long, to do with an upcoming project.

On the 9th, we were given papers, that separated us into six groups, to read one document about the "shot heard 'round the world." Each of the papers was from a different perspective and each basically told a completely different story. (In fact one of them didn't even mention who fired the first shot and was confusingly not about the battle. It was just about some people being jerks on the road. This, of course, was the group that I was in.) Before we did this though, we watched a video on how people's memories aren't reliable because they are reconstructed with new information. It was quite interesting. Then we were each given a number and went into those groups to talk about each of documents to the people there. When we put all the information in the documents together, it became very clear that no one will ever really know who fired the "shot heard 'round the world."

Until next time!

Post About Classwork (Every Two Cycle Days)

October 3, 2012 and October 4, 2012

On the 3rd, we went to the computer lab and worked on our Edcafe with our groups. We made a Google presentation from a bunch of different computers all at once. I continue to be amazed at what we can do with technology. We each did two slides but read the entire passage so that we would be prepared for the Edcafe the next day.

On the 4th we presented our Edcafes by splitting into different groups. I would present to one group while my groups members presented to other groups. Then we would switch around and listen to other peoples presentations. We took a lot of notes but also had debates about which side was right and whether they should have done the things that they did. It was interesting to hear everyone's thoughts. It was also interesting to see which people would go to what group they liked the best just from the title.

Until next time!

Post About Classwork (Every Two Cycle Days)

September 28, 2012 and October 1, 2012

On September 28th, we learned about how the colonies were similar and different. We learned about how they worked together but each had special attributes. Afterwords, we made Vokis about each section of the colonies--New England, the Middle Colonies, and the Southern Colonies. The links to each of them are shown  in the previous post, Voki Classwork Links.

On the 1st of October, we divided into groups and read a handout about the French-Indian war and how it all began. We talked about how the French claimed a lot of land for trade and how George Washington ended up taking aver fort Duquense. (He needed land for tobacco growing.) Even though the colonists ended up winning, the King of England let the Native Americans stay anyway. We also talked briefly about what was to come--no taxation without representation!

Post About Classwork (Every Two Cycle Days)

September 26, 2012 and September 27, 2012

On the 26th, we did our Edcafe. We each had been assigned a freedom (each group). Then we all split up into different groups and debated each right while we continued to switch around groups. It was interesting because everyone got a chance to speak, including people usually don't get a chance to. It was cool how you could learn some of the opinions of each person in our class and they could learn yours. You were able to debate each idea so much you could see clearly where everyone was coming from. I enjoyed the activity greatly.

(Also I wasn't able to post on the history conversation so I printed that and a response out to bring into class.)

On the 27th, we took out Constitution "Quest."

September 24, 2012 and September 25, 2012

On the 24th, we got a paper that had the ten original amendments to the Constitution written on it. We went over them and then we got a short story (purely hypothetical of course). At the end we were asked a few questions about which rights would relate to which circumstances and we defended characters through them. There was much debating (a lot of it about Madonna who was mentioned in the story).

On the 25th, we took notes on federalists and democratic-republicans. We made a spiffy chart that displayed all of our information and then we asked questions on assignments at the end of class. Most of the questions were about the ed-café and the quest. We went over how we would do the discussions tomorrow and then left for the day.

Until next time!

Post About Classwork (Every Two Cycle Days)

September 19, 2012 and September 20, 2012

On the 19th we looked at federalist and anti-federalist perspectives. We were put into partners and looked at one side before changing partners and looking at the other side. After that, with out second partner, we were given a side to represent and we made magazine covers. There were battles over whether the crayons were federalist or anti-federalist and we had debates about the two perspectives as we worked.

On the 20th, we were in the lab and were given a new project with new groups. The project was to look at a specific freedom with different eyes. We would look at it from the perspective of how this could be bad for the nation or whether there should be limitations on it or not. My group was assigned freedom of speech. After, we played on iCivics or did other ongoing history projects on the computer.

Until next time!

(The Visual my group made in class on the 18th.)

Post About Classwork (Every Two Cycle Days)

September 17, 2012 and September 18, 2012:

On the 17th, we got our preamble quizzes back and looked at the Virginia Plan, the New Jersey Plan, and the Hamilton Plan. We discussed how they were similar and different and how you could compromise with all them. We discussed how many people would lead each, how they would be elected, their term length, whether or not they could run for re-election, their general powers, whether or not they were impeachable, if they had the veto power, if they had appointment power, and anything else we might find. A lot of people had strong opinions about which they would like the best or how they would compromise. It was interesting to debate and see who stood where.

On the 18th, We got a bunch of worksheets on the Constitution. We talked about which branch decides what and how checks and balances keep everything fair and orderly. We also quickly reviewed the things that we had already learned about the constitution and worked on a visual way to display facts about each branch. (I will post this picture when it is emailed to me by my group partner.)

Until next time!

Post About Classwork (Every Two Cycle Days) G Period

September 13, 2012 and September 14, 2012:
(I will most likely treat this as a summary of what we did in class unless further instructed.)

On the 13th, we took our Preamble Memorization Quiz (which I wish we had had the choice to sing) and we filled out three papers on advantages and disadvantages to specific types of government. The governments that we looked at were: Unicameral vs. Bicameral, People vs. the States, and Proportional vs. Equal. It was interesting because we debated it a little but we also looked at how it was possible to compromise each of these ideas. (We were assigned to write to a congressperson about compromise also.) We looked at what was decided to have when our government was first created and what we have today.

On the 14th, we talked about how to understand out syllabus. Everything on it was cleared up so we could understand what we were doing and when it is due. I think it really helped everyone because we were all trying to do everything it said but we were all very confused. Now it's all good. (Thanks Mr. Boyle!)

Until next time!

Three Artifacts By Maddie

Three Artifacts To Do With Me:

My Second Degree Black Belt (and other Karate Equipment)
My Second Degree black belt and Karate equipment would tell you a lot about me. For one thing, it shows you that I was very accomplished in Martial Arts. But it also goes into detail. You could be able to see what I what I had mastered and how much I enjoyed Martial Arts to go this far into it. To be exact, you would find my gi (uniform), my katana (I refer to it as my lightsaber), my fan, my bo (staff), my hook swords, and of course by Second Degree black belt. My gi would inform you that I was on the Demonstration team at Mark Warner’s Professional Martial Arts Academy in Ipswich and everything else would show you what I really worked at. You could probably infer form that that I was quite lethal.

My Trombone Case (With Trombone In It)
If you found my trombone case, not only would you find out I was a trombone player, but you would be able to figure out fairly easily how involved in the performing arts I was. My trombone case is not only used for keeping my trombone safe but also keep my trombone music safe, my singers music safe, and scripts safe. By looking at these you could figure out that I was also a singer and involved in theater. In fact, if you knew how to read music and could decipher my interesting handwriting, you could even see that I was a First trombone player in all of my High School bands and, that I was a second soprano in my High School choirs, and that I was a reasonable actor who usually plays ridiculous dramatic roles (involving either being a complete, utter jerk or being super, sweet and innocent). If you looked at my trombone case, you could figure out that music is really my life (in fact I have sticky notes in there that read, “Music is life.”)

My Bookshelf (With Books On It)
If you found my bookshelf, you would figure out that I was into a lot of different things (and you would also figure out that I was a complete lunatic). On my bookshelf, I have scrapbooks, hundreds of fantasy and science fiction books, a dictionary (with sticky notes marking my favorite words), and thousands of papers with tons of ideas quickly scrawled onto them (many of them with pictures). You would also find mythology books, my entire anime and manga collection, a few yearbooks, piles of sheet music, Playbills of shows that I’ve seen, and programs to shows that I’ve been in. Amongst all of this you would find two lunchboxes. One would have the Cheshire Cat, from Alice in Wonderland, on it and the other Jack Skelington, from a Nightmare before Christmas. With all of this, you could see that I often times had my head up in the clouds and loved to write and draw. This would again show my love for music but would also specify some of my favorite things. If you ended up looking close at the scrapbooks, you could see that I had adventure-filled summers with a lot of hiking involved. If you were to look at my bookshelf you would find out a lot of random stuff about me but also some of my main interests.
